Kitchen Revamp for under £500!
I’m so happy to finally reveal our kitchen revamp!
The kitchen has been high on my list of projects ever since we moved in but we knew we wouldn’t have the budget anytime soon to properly remodel it… but I worked out for less than £500 I could work with what we had and still give it that airy and fresh feeling I was after!
The first part of my plan was to rip out all the wall cabinets to really help open up the space (which we later replaced with some open shelving). This part of the kitchen always felt quite narrow and dingy before, but the minute the cabinets were removed it just opened up so much more visual space, it was amazing! Think it particularly made a big difference around the extractor fan which I hadn’t been expecting!
I’ve popped a before and after shot below so you can see the full transformation.
After we removed the cabinets there came the biggest job of the revamp - removing and replacing all the tiles! The vision I had really needed fully tiled walls so it was a bit of a undertaking for a couple of novices but I definitely feel it was worth the extra effort. I love the pattern we used for the tiles and I really think it helps add that something a little bit special to the space!
For the bottom cabinets, we gave them a quick sand before painting these with Frenchic Dazzle Me. I also bought some new handles with the same size spacing to replace our old ones so we could avoid having to fill/drill any holes! One of my favourite details of the new kitchen is definitely the gold handles, they just really help bring the whole thing to life!
Once the tiles and shelves were up, the final job was the marble effect vinyl for the worktop which was a bit of a last minute decision but I’m so happy we went for it! It’s gone on so well and really finishes off the space even better than I could have imagined!
Other nice little details I added were some gold spray painted command hooks for our bags/tea towels and some bright artwork to add a splash of colour! It was then just a case of filling the shelves with all our kitchen stuff.
All of this came to (just) under £500 which I’m so happy with! I can’t believe what a transformation it’s had and cost us so much less than replacing everything. I’ve listed out the main costs roughly below but if you do have any more specific questions please just ask!
Cost Breakdown
Tiles £130
Wood for Shelves £80
Brackets £10
Frenchic Paint £40
Handles £25
Vinyl £40
Filler & Tile Backing Board £50
Adhesive & Grout £70
Clear Varnish for Shelves £20
Misc £25
Total: £490
Just a disclaimer to say I haven’t included tools in the cost total or breakdown as we already had most of these and those we didn’t are also being used for other projects, but obviously if you don’t have them it would add to the revamp price!
It’s honestly amazing how much of a difference a few tins of paint and some new tiles can make to a space! Looking back at the before photos makes me love it even more, because you can see how far we’ve come! If you can’t/don’t want to splurge on a whole new kitchen, this is such a great way to update your space… it genuinely feels like a whole new room to me!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this rundown of what we did to revamp our kitchen for less than £500! It’s 100% one of my favourite projects we’ve done to the house so far so I hope it inspires you to get your paint brush out!
Let me know what you think of the transformation in the comments!
