DIY Boho Tassel Wall Hanging

DIY Boho Tassel Wall Hanging

Today I wanted to share the DIY for this super easy Boho Tassel Wall Hanging I made. I’ve needed something for this wall for a while and wanted to avoid just another print, so a wall hanging was the perfect solution for filling the space, whilst complimenting the fairly neutral vibe of the room. I chose natural colours and textures for my yarn and then set about making my tassels!

What you’ll need:

  • A few different types of wool / yarn

  • Twine

  • A thin piece of wood or dowel

  • Scissors

  • Hot Glue Gun

  • Something the desired length of your tassel

Method:

  1. Choose one of your wools and wrap it around something the desired length of your tassel 30 times. I used a box lid, but it could be anything from a piece of sturdy card to a plate.

  2. Cut a piece of twine to a little longer than the length you wish your tassel to hang. Mine was about 35cm. If you’re unsure at this point, I’d cut it longer than you think you’ll need as you can always trim it later.

  3. Remove your loop of wool from your box lid and tie one end of the twine around the top of the loop, making sure to knot it.

  4. Trim the excess twine from the shorter end of the knot so you just have one long piece coming out the top.

  5. Take another piece of twine and tie it around the wool, creating the top shape of your tassel. I then wrapped mine around 5 or 6 times to create a bit of a feature from it. Knot at the back and trim the excess twine.

  6. Cut through the bottom of the loop to create your tassel ends.

  7. Repeat this process with each of your different coloured wools / yarn until you have 9 (or as many tassels as you like!)

  8. Make sure your lengths of twine attached to each tassel are the same length and then hot glue these to the back of your piece of wood.

  9. Use a long piece of twine to tie around each end of your wood making sure you leave enough loose in the middle to hang from your nail. Use the hot glue gun to attach at the back.

  10. Once hung, I found it valuable to quickly trim any wonky ends of your tassels, just to tidy them up!

I’m so happy with how this DIY turned out, it really finishes off this space in the dining room and I love the texture it adds to the room. Obviously I’ve kept mine neutral but this could be done in any colour to match your decor or the season! Hope you enjoy making your own DIY Boho Tassel Wall Hanging!
